Mattrran Trailer: Double Delight for Surya fans!!

Keralathile ella Pambukalkum dedicate cheyunnu....Please watch this one!!!

Gangs of Wasseypur- A classy Bollywood Masala entertainer

In Bollywood, entertain means either buffoonery like Housefull,Ready etc or some unapologetic skin show like Murder,Jism,Dirty picture etcc(Aamir Khan & Kahaani are exceptions).Anurag Kashyap has always tried to break existing rules and norms of cinema and I find all his movies entertaining except That Girl in Yellow Boots. But this time with some reasonable budjet in his hand he proved his worth and the result was an ultimate entertainer.

GOW is basically a desi 'GodFather' made with a Tarantino mindset in Bollywood shtyle. Its the story of rivalry between three families which later become gangs through their constant fights. Here rather than the story, the characters and the narration of the incidents are the highlight of the movie. The movie takes it time to settle down at the beginning, but after that its so pacy that every scene is a delight to watch. The characters are real, their language is real and the actions are extremely raw. There are so many cuss words used, but they are timed so well that it would definitely bring smile on your face.
The most notable thing in the movie is that as the situation become more serious, the scene become more hilarious and the viewers are forced to laugh out loudly out of nothing. This is the real power of a talented film maker.

Performances:
Sardar Khan played by Manoj Bajpayee could be the most memorable film character in recent times. He was almost living through the role which was scary ,funny, romantic all at the same time.He is just terrific.Richa Chadda as Sardar Khan's first wife got a meaty role and her performance is stupendous(especially the scene in which she catches her husband with a prostitute).
Timanshu Dhulia as Ramadhir Singh is a revelation, its just his first film but the naturality with which he performs is unbelievable. Not the least, Nawasudin Siddiqui as Faizal Khan, 2nd son of Sardar Khan has a brief role in 1st part but whenever he grace the screen,he makes us glued to the seat with his impeccable screen presence and extra ordinary acting skills. He alone can be the reason to watch GOW-2.(His dating scene with Huma Qureshi is one of the best dating scenes I have ever scene in a movie).
The songs in the movie are like secondary characters and are played in the background. Its the best album in HIndi this year and Kehke Lunga , Oh Womaniya and Hunter are the pick of the lot.Other technical aspects like cinematography, editing, art direction are top notch.
I am writing this review after watching this movie three weeks before, but still the characters and scenes are well etched in my memory. I could write about other several terrific sequences in this movie like Manoj-Reema romance, 'Paide karne wale ki kasam' scene etc.... and this alone should be the reason to love this movie. This is one of the best hindi films I have seen in recent times and is highly recommended even for a second watch. This film is a sheer case of cinematic orgasm but definitely not for the weak hearted.

Now waiting for Faizal Khan to explode the screen in Part2...and I am sure they will!!!

Teri Meri Kahaani-No Kahaani told!!!

Kunal Kohli has made really entertaining movies like Hum Tum and Fanaa in the past. But after the dismal performance of Ta Ra Rum Pum he had to prove himself ,same as the case with Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka(agneepath had literally no heroine .It was a hero-villain show). But this time too, three of them failed to deliver.
TMK could be called as three short stories made separately and combined to make make a 2hr film. There is no link between the stories, only the lead actors are the same.In all of them, they start lovig at the first sight, some problem arises in between and at the end they solve the problem and everything ends happily.

The main problem with the movie is that there is nothing real here..even the problem between them is nothing genuine and the culmination of each story is also absurd. They couldn't actually focus on any of the stories and messed up whole of them. The better among the lot was the 1960's story which displayed the old filmy charm, but spoiled after a point of time. The odern day story was full of facebook and twitter updates and nothing else. The 1940's story ws more of a joke as the hero's co-prisoners in the jail stole the keys so that hero can sing n dance with heroine for some time in jail!

The actors tried their best to save the movie with their charming chemistry, but nothing worked as there is not a good scene for them to perform other than looking good.

Overall a boring and avoidable one!!!

Spirit: Feel the spirit of the theme and performaces

Ranjith is having a dream run both critically and commercially from Thirakatha to Indian Rupee. This trend definitely continues in the movie Spirit.Spirit could be called as a social satire based on the alchoholism kerala is witnessing today. The film takes us through the life of a alchohol addict, how he gradually changes due to various incidents in his life and how he inspires others to stay away from the 'Bottled Poetry'.
This time too, Ranjith took a simple and contemporary story, brilliantly crafted the script and sequences with slice of humour which makes it entertaining for most of the parts. The various human relations are handled with extreme maturity and it doesn't go melodramatic at any point.
After watching the film,we would understand why Ranjith and Mohanlal forgot their egos and patched up so quickly.Because I can't imagine of any other actor who could have done justice to this role with this amount of originality. The arrogance, vulnarability, anger, the body language of an alchoholic and his gradual change are portrayed so perfectly by him that I am assured that he has not lost his golden touch which we haven't seen him for years.Rightly called one of the most versatile actors in the country, the movie displays the sheer class of this actor in various sequences.Nandu gets the role of his lifetime and he has done well.Thilakan don't have much role.Shankar,Sidharth and others are good. in their roles.
Though the second half is a bit slow and is taken in a docu fiction format, still it does not get bored and is filmed with atmost sincerity.Overall Spirit is an insightful film in to the most common habit of malayalis which should not be missed.Though the script is not as perfect as his previous films, the performances lifts the film to another level. We may be able to remake this film with another director, but can't imagine with another actor for sure.

If you have'nt seen this movie, you have missed one of the best acting moments of Mohanlal!!!!

Usthad Hotel- A Delicious one!!!

There are movies which runs on heroisms, there are also movies which depends on brilliant performances from the cast & there are movies which runs on the script and the treatment.Usthad hotel belongs to the last section where Anjali Menon's fine narration, Anwar Rasheed's slick making are packaged with stunning visuals & enchanting background music.
It is the story about the home coming and associated realisations of a younger raised and educated abroad who wanted to be someone else in his life which we have seen in movies like Swadesh,Lakshya,Wake up sid...Here the guy wants to be a chef against his father's MBA dreams and due to various incidents he has to join his Grandfather's hotel on a beach. The experience in the hotel & with the people around him changes him as  a person and this makes the crux of the story.
The movie is filled with  numerous engrossing moments and wisely written sequences which are sure to stay in our heart for long. The hitmaker Anwar rasheed here told the human relations with subtle emotions and humour all around. It also touches our heart at some points. The cinematography is stunning and Lokanathan has almost created a visual poetry.Another major boost for this movie is BGM by Gopi Sunder. Its blends so well with the movie that we are lured to the movie with just the visuals and music. In fact  almost thirty minutes in the movie just builds on with his BG scores rather than dialogues.
On acting front Thilakan as Kareemikka overshadows every one as usual  with his sheer brilliance.
Dulquar definitely improved a lot from his first film though he doesn't has any difficult scene in the film.Nithya Menon has a good role which she played well.

Though the second half is a bit slow and could have been less lenghthy  Usthad Hotel is Anwar Rasheed's best film till date and again proves that a mass movie could be a moving one too with right ingredients.Overall this is a highly entertaining movie which will definitely bring smiles to our faces.A delicious meal guarantied!!!!
