2012 has been a wonderful year for Malayalam film industry and there were many high quality films and here were huge number f box office success unlike previous years.So we are providing our list of our top 5 films based on the films watched by us.The rating given is based only on the merit on the film and not based on the box office performance of the film:
5. 22 FK Kottyam
This film by Aashiq Abu was completely different from his last film Salt n Pepper and he could treat this bold subject with the best possible manner.Various scenes and especially the climax of the film breaks the stereotypes was a new experience for malayalam film viewers.It will also be remembered for the terrific performance of Rima Kallingal.Though not a perfect film this bold attempt makes it the 5th best film in our list.
4.Usthad Hotel
The cinematography and background score alone could make this film a refreshing experience.And when an engaging script from Anjali Menon was behind them Anwar Rasheed pulled of another commercial entertainer to his credit.The performance of Thilakan was another plus point for this film.Dulquar Slaman also gave a better performance from his debut movie.Though some scenes are inspired, still the treatment of this film was so poetic that it is in 4th place .
3. Spirit
And this film shows what acting and screen presence is all about.Spirit was mostly a Mohanlal show where he displays the vulnerabilities and body language of an alchohol addict to perfection and with an amazing and socially relevent script this movie was an experience in all repect.The performances of all actors were amazing especially that of Nandu and Shanker Ramakrishnan. Ranjith contiues his form this year with his genre of mass + class movies.
2.Diamond Necklace
This typical Lal Jose movie was a family entertainer and he realistically portrayed the life of an NRI youth and his relations with three women in his life.The script by Iqbal Kuttipuram deals with various relations in life,how marriage is a mockery in various Kerala families and the master story teller Laljose tells these in most simplest manner.This film also showed why Fahad Fazil is wah ahead of his contemporaries with his terrific performance.The music by Vidyasagar was also a highlight of this film.
1.Ee Adutha Kalath
And the top film in our list is Ee Adutha Kalath directed by Cocktail fame Arun Kumar Aravind. This film could be a trend setter in malayalam film industry with its complex scripting, bold and realistic dialogues and a different treatment .The script by Murali Gopy was just brilliant and the natural way in which he connected different stories in the film was the main plus point of the film.The performnces by Indrajith and Murali Gopy took the film to another film.And Arun Kumar should be appreciated for dealing such a complex script with such an ease.Undoubtedly the best movie of the year.

Nice collection !!! but Ustad hotel deserves a much higher spot !!! 4 sure over Spirit
